If the gutter is too level it will hold a lot of run off water and risk becoming too heavy for the supports to handle. Depending on your situation the water in the downspouts may or may not have enough head pressure to push water through. Multiply the number of feet by 1 16 inch to determine the total slope the gutter requires.

If a house settles so that its roof edge or trim and its attached gutters slope away from downspouts either install new gutters with downspouts properly located or reattach gutters so they slope toward existing. For example if you have 30 feet of guttering the calculation is 1 4 x 3 0 75 i e. Gutters need to slope towards the downspouts in order to function properly. This means the downspout end of the gutter should be set 3 4 of an inch lower than the other end. In 20 ft with no low spots en route to the downspout a gutter will drain.
