Shut off the power to the garage door opener.
Garage door openedr making noise but wont open.
If it s on the way out that could explain the intermittent failure.
Replace the gear and sprocket assembly or the drive and worm gears when they re worn and making noises.
Firstly check that the garage door isn t locked.
If it has remove it and try opening the door again.

The opener motor is fine but the shaft doesn t turn.
The main drive gear is the plastic gear that comes in direct contact with the worm drive gear on the motor.
Use a screwdriver to tighten the wire.
A worn belt or chain and cable assembly can also make noise tighten chain or belt tension to correct this problem.
While the unit is open inspect all the gears and sprockets.
Worn gears inside the garage door opener s motor unit can make grinding or buzzing noises.
Check that nothing has fallen into the garage door track.
That is the buzzing sound that the customer hears.
Turn the power back on and the door should open and close normally.
Unfortunately this is just something that happens with usage over time.
When your garage door won t open with the remote there are few things that can cause this problem.
More likely you ll have to measure the capacitance to make sure it s within a good operating range.
If the door opens with the wall switch a simple battery change in the remote should do the trick.
Make sure it is hanging down from the motor.
You might be out of range.
It sounds very obvious but when you re in a rush and trying to leave.
You may notice physical damage to the capacitor leaking buldging etc.
Check the door s electric eye.
If it is the door there are several reasons why it won t open.
The antenna on the motor could be damaged or blocked from the signal.
