Once your door is clean spray a lithium based grease or garage door lube onto the hinges and rollers. If the weather seal has trouble sliding into place pull it all the way back out and apply penetrating oil to the groove. Caution should be used around any nuts or bolts with red heads. Do not use wd 40 type lubricant oil based or grease.

These are under extreme tension. It s a good idea to have a specific bucket for washing your car and garage door. Cleaning your garage door is much the same as cleaning your car. Then clean the garage door tracks with a damp rag to get rid of any dirt and debris.

Then open and close the door to distribute the lubricant. Clean 3 5 gallon bucket. Garage door lubricants that are grease based go on by hand and are much messier. They give you more freedom to evenly coat hinges locks gears and springs.

After cleaning a wood door may also require repainting or staining. For wood doors clean the outside of the door by wiping it with a dry soft cloth. Lubricate the tracks and hinges with a silicone or teflon based spray. Wash the door with a soft sponge or cloth and a cleaner appropriate for the surface then thoroughly rinse the door with a hose.

To lubricate a garage door first close it and disconnect the power by turning off the switch or circuit breaker. Then slide a new piece of weather seal into the door groove. Once loosened the weather strip should slide out if you pull a free end from the side of the garage door.
