Not an issue for me. 13 2 volt 4500mah rechargeable ni mh battery for the yaesu vertex ft 897 radio. In this video i open up the radio to install a new lipo batter. At first i wanted to buy a ft 817d radio but as my ft 897d can hold batteries as well and power can be set as low as 5 watts i decided to first upgrade my ft 897d with one or two battery packs.

Yaesu ft 897d with internal ldg yt 100 automatic antenna tuner and 2200mah 11 1v lipo battery. The fnb 78 4 5 battery however sets you back 124 around 100 and bear in mind you probably want need two and also need a specific yaesu. The rig is very portable and the internal batteries are most convenient as you don t need any separate power supply. These are 4 cell batteries that have the right voltage range required for the ft 897d and ft 857d.

At 10 w power the pair of batteries lasted a weekend of casual operating. If i was powering an ft 817nd i could have gone for a 3 cell lipo battery as the ft 817nd doesn t need as much voltage and just wastes the rest in heat. Even 4500 mah is a large capacity ft 897 needs more than 600 ma on. Internal batteries in the ft 897 i liked operating portable with my ft 897 with its internal fnb 78 battery packs.

Yaesu ft 897 can operate from two internal battery packs for portable use.
